Restoration services offered by the P. H. Miller Studio focuses on period picture frames as well as the gilded surfaces of furniture and objects.

    Restoration of these surfaces can include structural repair, gesso foundation work, replacement of losses, removal of paints or other finishes applied over gold leaf as may be appropriate. The staff at the P.H. Miller Studio, through their concerns and interest in preserving the history of gilded surfaces, will first and foremost recommend a treatment that will minimize the alteration of adjoining gilded surfaces in good repair. The dust, dirt, and aging of the gilded surface are valued, respected and oftentimes left alone during the process. It is rare that a recommendation be given to fully re-gild a surface.

    All restoration jobs require a viewing of the object and consultation. Fees are based on an hourly rate and materials required for the project. We are happy to view your object by email and digital imagery, with the understanding the P. H. Miller Studio has the right to adjust any estimate after actual physical examination of the piece.
