About P.H. Miller

"I believe that in our society, it is a rarity to have a career focused around something that one is so passionate about. I am one of the lucky ones." Peter H. Miller, frame maker and owner of the P. H. Miller Studio, surrounds himself with art, frames and gold leaf. The frames that the P. H. Miller Studio creates are designed specifically for the paintings that they will showcase. Each frame is created using the same traditional methods of carving and gilding as were implemented by frame-makers and woodworkers dating back to the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. "Our knowledge of art, architecture, design and frame history enables us to work with each client and each painting with the end result being a sensational presentation."

While the Studio offers historical hand made frames that may have French, Italian, Dutch or English origins, Peter's strong interest is in American frames designed and made during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The frames from Boston, New York, and Bucks County, Pennsylvania are a testimony to the reemergence of the craft and the beauty of the gilded surface. It is that inspiration which goes into the design and fabrication of each of Peter's frames. Peter has created frames for the work of distinguished American painters including Guy Wiggins, George Wharton Edwards, William Trost Richards, Spencer Nichols, Hobart Nichols, Hugh Bolton Jones, Dwight Tryon, George Sotter, Arthur Meltzer, and Childe Hassam.

Peter serves on the board of trustees and previously served as the president of the Society of Gilders. Peter and his family reside in Woodbury , Ct. also known as the “Antique Capital of Connecticut .” The P. H. Miller Studio, established in 1983, has become the trusted name in frame making and gilding among private collectors, designers, and Antique dealers throughout the region.
